Guidelines (see example below):
- If your fairway shot lands in the first cut it is not a fairway hit.
- If you take a penalty off the first tee and then hit your second ball and it lands in the fairway it is not a fairway hit.
- A green-in-regulation is defined as your ball on the green/putting surface with your second shot on a par 4; on the green/putting surface on your third shot on a par 5 and on the green/putting surface on your first shot on a par 3.
- If your green shot lands on the first cut, it is not on the putting surface and therefore is not a green-in-regulation.
- If you use your putter to putt a ball that is in the first cut of the green, since you are not technically on the green it is not considered a putt, technically it is a chip shot that you happen to use your putter to hit.
- Putts begin accumulating once your ball rest on the actual putting surface, regardless of whether or not you use your putter to hit from the fairway or fringe.
The above guidelines will make your statistics consistent and therefore more accurate. Also, it is a simple system that does not slow up play. We suggest that you do not write in your scores until on the next T box; this way you are not slowing up play and the four areas we track are easily remembered. It goes really fast and is incredibly simple. After a few rounds you will wonder why everyone does not keep these statistics.
